Land of the Lost (2009)

Will Ferrell’s done it all. He was top news anchor, professional basketball player, Olympic skater, and an elf. So it’s no surprise that he plays Rick Marshall, a palaeontologist with theories on travelling to a parallel universe. Based on the 70’s children’s show, director Brad Silberling (A Series of Unfortunate Events)’s adaptation takes on a more adult approach, while still maintaining the feel of the original show. Anna Friel (Pushing Daisies) is great as the caring and logical Holly Cantrell, and Danny R. McBride (Pineapple Express, Hot Rod) as the blunt-speaking comic relief gave this film more reasons to laugh. At first, the movie feels almost like a kid’s movie, but with some swearing, exploding dinosaur chunks and some drug references, you’ll think again. - © Gerard Ward
