Description
When the name Lars von Trier is mixed with the title Antichrist you immediately know this film is not a comedy. Masterfully directed by von Trier, Antichrist stars Charlotte Gainsbourg and Willem Defoe and virtually nobody else.
The two play the roles of grieving parents who choose to seclude themselves in a forest cabin after the death of their only son. The couple soon plummet into insanity, experiencing a range of hallucinations and strange behaviour.
Hailed by many as a modern masterpiece, Antichrist is essential viewing for any true lover of film. While the film has had its detractors, few would deny the merit of Gainsbourg’s Best Actress Award at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. Her unique and disturbing portrayal of a grieving mother is truly something to behold.
Probably not one to watch with the kids, but defiantly one to watch.
