Description
It’s been seven years since his four untitled albums, and three monosyllabic-titled gems. ‘Scratch My Back’ is the deconstruction of rock ‘n’ roll. Taking tracks from a myriad of famous tracks, he’s removed guitars from the recording studio, as well as percussion. With these essential instruments silenced Peter Gabriel has created an album that transforms familiar songs into a focused homage to the songs we’ve fallen in love with, like David Bowie’s ‘Heroes’ as a softly played end-credits track to an epic action film. You’ll appreciate Neil Young, Elbow and Lou Reed in ways you never thought you could.

Comments about PROPER Peter Gabriel - Scratch My Back:
"Scratch My Back" is an album drenched, dripping. Of rain, which occurs in some text, but most of memory. A covers album is usually a sign of creative tired. Peter Gabriel knows that in forty years of career ideas has the lost and found again and again - does not intend to stumble on a disc or calligraphic others live on inspiration. Gabriel's goal is the emotional detachment, and sing songs of other tool to achieve it. The tracks sound far away. Old and recent pieces are echoes of the past, relics of emotions lost in memory. What remains after the flood. Last man on earth, Gabriel seeks the warmth of memories, buried under a thick blanket of orchestral. But everything is washed, soaked: the memory has changed every note and every image. Memories and regrets of those who see life behind. Yet, something emerges. Gradually, the clouds open and a ray of light leaks out. This album is an unexpected miracle, a joke of the wind. It fades to the words of 'Street Spirit' Fade out, again ...

Comments about PROPER Peter Gabriel - Scratch My Back:
As a long time fan of Peter Gabriel, I must admit this was not quite what I was expecting, but that said, his music does have a unique ability to surprise and this is CD is certainly no exception. His interpretations of these songs are well worth a listen!

Comments about PROPER Peter Gabriel - Scratch My Back:
This is boring stuff! There was a time when I thought Peter Gabriel was one of the best musicians with one of the most beautiful voices. Well, this record definitely proves the opposite. When there are no accompanying guitars and drums, the voice of Peter Gabriel isn't that great at all. If Peter Gabriel has nothing else to offer but boring covers of other people's beautiful songs, it's high time for him to retire. My modest opinion.

Comments about PROPER Peter Gabriel - Scratch My Back:
This collection from Peter Gabriel may not be what you expect considering the songs covered. Many of the songs chosen are almost unrecognisable here and that doesn't always work especially if you are a fan of the original. Where it does work is when you are not familiar with the original. If this was an album of new songs that you never heard before, I am sure you consider it to be a fantastic record but as that is not the case it does provide the listener with a lot of challenges. In summary, a cd that is definitely worth a listen but keep an open mind and don't expect a typical Peter Gabriel offering.

Comments about PROPER Peter Gabriel - Scratch My Back:
Peter Gabriel covers some great tracks and with NO DRUMS and NO GUITARS - just a sensational orchestra and Peter's voice. It's a very distinctive album and, if you loved Johnny Cash's cover of Nine Inch Nail's HURT - you'll love this orchestral approach. Not for everyone but me, I loved it!

Comments about PROPER Peter Gabriel - Scratch My Back:
This Peter Gabriel covers CD is certainly not for all tastes. It is not vey commercial so do not expect another Sledgehammer. Have an open mind and the songs do have their rewards after repeated listens.
