This is a great album by a fantsatic scottish instrumental band. I got this after hearing songs from their latest album and really enjoy it. Its very listenable and thoroughly engaging - i listen to it while walking to work usually as its easy going and not too hard on the ear. i recommend it highly for songs such as "the sun smells too loud" - the band are known for quirky song and album titles! if you like instrumental, cleverly written, big sounding music, try this.

Firstly there is nothing bad to say about any Mogwai CD. Their music is the best I have heard in a long time. It's the ultimate chill out session music for anyone of any age!!. Can be used anywhere any time!!

I like instrumentals and soft loud dynamics and this has both those, but there is a sameness to the album. It could all be one song. And since when do instrumentals have no solos, or melody?
This is the only Mogwai I've heard and something tells me there is more to these guys than this album shows. Guess I'll have to try again.

The Hawk Is Howling is the sixth studio album by Mogwai. It contains all the extremity and dynamics fans have come to know of the band, but with a more curious array of rhythms and melodies, hinting a bit more than previous records at both their electronic and metal influences. Additionally, with only two songs under the five-minute mark, this is maybe their most "cinematic"-sounding record to date.
However, there hasn't been a great deal of development in terms of song-writing, which will suit die-hard fans. Many however will feel that Mogwai have yet to reach their full potential.

Mogwai constantly defy pigeon-holing and this release sees them take their sound to a new level while retaining the stark beauty and intensity of their earlier work. A great starting place for newcomers and a must have for hardcore fans.

Mogwai is one of the pioneers of post rock. These instrumental songs are very interesting and emotive. A must have for all post rockers!!
