Description

With Smoke & Mirrors, Lifehouse's fifth studio album, lead singer/guitarist Jason Wade, drummer Rick Wollstenhulme, bassist Bryce Soderberg and newly added guitarist Ben Carey, along with long time producer Jude Cole, have created a set that combines their live sound with great record making.

Smoke & Mirrors started out with a mission to capture the live, rock side of the band: a sound they had perfected after three years of solid touring. However, after living with the early tracks and experimenting with others, a piece of the puzzle seemed to be missing.

Equal to their enthusiasm for the live sound, they also love to make studios records. After all, one of Lifehouse's greatest achievements is the tens of millions of radio spins garnered over the span of 4
albums, so to create a record solely focusing on the sound from their show felt off balance.

A trip back into the studio to experiment in more of a 'record making' effort produced tracks like "All In," "Here Tomorrow Gone today" and the first singe "Halfway Gone" co written by Kevin Rudolf (Let It Rock). Songs sure to be heard on radio for years to come. Songs Like "Smoke & mirrors," "Wrecking Ball" and "Had Enough" (with guest vocals by Chris Daughtry) have a very raw and stage driven feel to them and certainly play homage to the live show that Lifehouse is equally known for.

With this light hearted concept and fitting title, Smoke & Mirrors properly defines the best that Lifehouse has to offer, showcasing a rocking band with their 5th studio album full of new hit records for Lifehouse fans new and old.

Comments about UMGD/GEFFEN Lifehouse - Smoke & Mirrors:

Lifehouse are back with a new album.
Its good, there are several catchy songs, though it takes a couple of listens before you start to appreciate it.

However I don't feel there are any stand out songs as Lifehouse's other albums, and their style seems to have veered towards a more mainstream pop feel in a number of the songs.

Still its definately wortth a few listens.

Comments about UMGD/GEFFEN Lifehouse - Smoke & Mirrors:

This would have been called MOR back in the day and as MOR goes it's a fine offering. Some nice changes of pace help the album avoid feeling monotonous and there are no filler tracks imo although I do get the impression many have been crafted to be intentionally radio friendly instead of perhaps showing a little more 'spark' as they undoubtedly could if they wanted.

I hope the above doesn't come across as being harsh as it's certainly not meant to be - the album is solid enough and will stand the test of time, I can certainly think of relations and friends that would simply adore it.

A stunning album - maybe one or two songs that are not 8/9 out of 10. Absolutely amazing - the best album of 2010 already, hands down!

Best songs - Had enough, halfway gone, it is what it is, falling in

Comments about UMGD/GEFFEN Lifehouse - Smoke & Mirrors:

This is another decent effort from one of the best light rock bands to come out of the USA. It combines there usual blend of up tempo rock hits such as 'All In' and melodic/slow emotion fuelled songs such as 'From Where You Are'. Whilst it doesn't reach the heights of there 1st and best album 'No Name Face', it's definately worth purchasing
